Aardman Animations’ posted an opening weekend of £2.02m from its 552 sites, an average of £3,659, placing it fifth on the chart. That’s on par with Aardman’s last feature Shaun The Sheep Movie, also a Studiocanal release, which posted £2.11 from 513 sites in February 2015.

That film ended on £13.76m, which Early Man will be aiming to match. It should surpass Flushed Away, which took £11.33m, but could struggle to reach The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists (£16.8m) and Arthur Christmas (£20.84m).

Aardman’s best performing titles remain Chicken Run (£29.51m) and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit (£32m).
